Gregory L. DeBord

Chief Felony Defender

Prior to graduating law school, Mr. DeBord served for twenty-two (22) years as a police officer in Mt. Pleasant, Wisconsin, where in 1996 he was awarded the department’s Medal of Merit for apprehending an armed robber while the suspect was fleeing the scene. He retired from the police department and joined the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office as a prosecutor in September of 2000. His first assignment was in the State’s Attorney’s Complaint Division, and he was eventually transferred to Domestic Violence court. Mr. DeBord was promoted to felony assistant in 2001; the following year he was promoted to courtroom supervisor. Mr. DeBord has tried more than forty (40) felony jury trials, including eight first-degree murder prosecutions. He also has been admitted to the Capital Litigation Bar as Lead Counsel. In January of 2005, State’s Attorney Glasgow promoted Mr. DeBord to Supervisor of the Gang Unit.  In December of 2005, Mr. DeBord was promoted to First Assistant State’s Attorney where he remained until joining the Will County Public Defender’s Office in June of 2009 when he accepted the position of Chief Felony Defender.

Mr. DeBord grew up in Bureau County, Illinois, graduating from Princeton High School in 1971. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice at Concordia University in Wisconsin and his Juris Doctorate from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1999. He was licensed to practice law in November of 1999.
