Frank A. Astrella
Public Defender
Mr. Astrella graduated from DePaul University College of Law after serving on the Law Review and the trial advocacy team. He began his legal career as an Assistant Public Defender at the Cook County Public Defender’s Office, defending major felonies including death penalty cases at the Criminal Courts building, located at 26th and California. Mr. Astrella then accepted a position as the Chief of Gang Crime Prosecution for the Kankakee County State’s Attorney’s Office. During the next twelve (12) years, he rose to Felony Supervisor, Chief Deputy, and finally, the First Assistant State’s Attorney, a position he held for six (6) years. Since 2002, Mr. Astrella has been a member of the Capital Litigation Trial Bar, certified as Lead Counsel. He assumed the position of Chief of the Felony Division for the Will County Public Defender’s Office in 2006. He remained as Chief until September 2008 when he was appointed as the Will County Public Defender.
