JOB CLASSIFICATION:  Legal Secretary
 
JOB SUMMARY:  Provides support for the various divisions within the Public Defender's Office.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preparation of correspondence and legal documents, answering telephones, file preparation, data entry, utilizing standard office and computer equipment.

ANNUAL SALARY: $37,500 - $56,250.  Collective Bargaining Agreement - Will County Circuit Court/Office of the Chief Judge 12th Judicial Circuit Court and the IAM Union, Local 701.

OCCUPATIONAL TITLE: LEGAL SECRETARY

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Performs confidential and routine secretarial functions, including but not limited to:

  1. Preparing correspondence and other documents of a legal nature, such as notice of filings, subpoenas, motions, jury instruction, and appeals;
  2. Updating/closing client files;
  3. Downloading/Uploading digital discovery;
  4. Receiving inquiries, by phone or in person, and responding to or directing individuals to proper sources of assistance;
  5. Transcription of interviews;
  6. Performs other duties, as assigned or required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Education:  High School diploma or equivalent;
  2. Accurate typing and data entry skills;
  3. Knowledge of spelling, punctuation, and basic grammar;
  4. Good oral and written skills;
  5. One (1) year office/clerical experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience to successfully perform the essential functions of the job;
  6. Intermediate knowledge of computer equipment and various software applications, including Microsoft Office.
